About Us

TAPTONHOLME is a private Residential Care Home for persons aged 65 and over.

It has 18 rooms but can accommodate up to just 19 residents, as one room can accommodate a couple together.  It is registered for Residential Care and also for those with Dementia.  The Home is a self-supporting Registered Charity so, unlike most other Homes, is not reliant on making a profit for its owner.   Its finances and overall performance are managed by an experienced Board of Trustees which aims to make a small surplus each year to be re-invested back into the Home to maintain its fabric and improve the facilities for the benefit of the Residents. The Trustees are responsible for appointing the Home Manager who is responsible for the day to day running and care of residents.

The Chairman of Trustees visits the Home at least once a month for regular meetings with the Manager and holds an annual meeting with Residents’ Families. The Home has been running in its present format for over 40 years.

TAPTONHOLME is located in the charming suburb of Broomhill, on a quiet private cobbled Crescent, next door to Broomhill Library.  Broomhill is about 3 miles from the city centre and even closer to the Peak District and is easily accessed by public transport.  It was originally a large Victorian House but has since been adapted as a Residential Home including the building of two purpose built extensions.  It has all the modern facilities required whilst retaining its original charm and character.  It is set within the original gardens which have been modified to provide car parking for staff and visitors at the rear.  At the front It has mature secluded gardens, including a sensory garden, built recently with the aid of a bequest from a previous resident, where residents and their families can sit out in good weather.

Broomhill is well served by its Library, shops, cafes, and restaurants and the Botanical Gardens are a short distance away.

OUR HOME IS YOUR HOME

Care Homes can be rather institutional. At TAPTONHOLME we are big enough to provide all the facilities but small enough to make sure that our staff know all the Residents personally and that you will feel it is YOUR HOME.   Every Resident has a personal Care Plan designed and tailored for each individual resident’s needs and likes. This will be formulated and agreed by the Home Manager with the Resident and their family. Each Resident is assigned an individual Key Care Worker who is responsible for ensuring that the plan is reviewed and updated on a regular basis to reflect changing circumstances.

Each Resident is encouraged to be part of the community, join in activity and to build friendships but all have their own rooms where they can retire for privacy if they wish. Residents are encouraged to bring their personal items and photographs and in our larger rooms to bring their own furniture if they wish.  A number of our rooms have en-suite facilities and one room can accommodate a couple together.

Residents’ families are welcome to visit at any time of day and no prior appointments are required and are able to take their loved ones out if they wish. Family members are encouraged to participate in Home events such as the Summer Garden Party.

TAPTONHOLME is linked with Selborne GP Surgery and has a dedicated GP who will visit regularly as and when required to deal with resident’s specific needs.

In addition the District Nurses assist with any nursing requirements.  Everyone will be registered with School Road Dental Practice, unless their own Dentist is preferred.  She visits the home every 6 months to hold reviews.   If a resident has a hospital appointment they will be accompanied in a taxi by a member of staff if a family member is unable to go with them.

Other facilities include a Hairdresser who visits weekly.  A Podiatrist who visits 6 weekly for general foot care although a specialised Diabetic Podiatrist will be provided for anyone with Diabetes.  Other specialised health professionals are also accessed through the GP as required.

We respect Residents’ individual religious beliefs and have strong links with St Mark’s Church Broomhill.
