It’s now six weeks since my 97-year old mum moved into Taptonholme on an eight-week trial. This followed a recommendation from a friend and neighbour who was highly satisfied with the care which her own mum had been receiving there for almost a year.

There is a really homely atmosphere and my mum and I have both felt very warmly welcomed to ‘the Taptonholme family’. The staff are all lovely, extremely caring and they have been hugely supportive – not only of my mum but of me, too, which has been greatly appreciated! Nothing is too much trouble for them and not only do they always
greet us with a smile, they also go the extra mile.

A couple of weeks ago, a member of the District Nurse Team who’d visited my mum there assured me that we had indeed made an excellent choice of care home. She said that Taptonholme ‘runs like clockwork’ as the staff are always on the ball — monitoring and referring residents at an early stage so as to nip in the bud any potential medical problems.

Then, just a few days ago, I bumped into a retired health professional (a former nurse specialising in pain control who had been involved in my mum’s treatment some time ago). She told me that she, too, had heard very good reports of Taptonholme.

Thanks to everyone… for everything you do for your residents and their families. The reassurance of knowing how much you care and how hard you all work has made the transition, for both my mum and I, so much easier and more pleasant.

Review from Richard M (Son of Resident)

My mum had Alzheimer’s and was cared for by the staff team at Taptonholme for the last four years of her life. The staff remained virtually unchanged throughout that time (which I think tells you everything about how the home is managed) and everyone, no matter what their role, treated mum with absolute dignity and respect. Mum’s illness could be very upsetting for her at times, but all the staff had the upmost patience and gave her all the time she needed. My sisters and I had cared for mum ourselves prior to her moving to Taptonholme and we wanted to get that difficult decision right for her. We looked at number of other homes, but Taptonholme was head and shoulders above the rest. It’s in a brilliant setting, has a welcoming, friendly atmosphere, it’s not too big and it’s greatest asset – the staff team. I felt a real sense of comfort knowing that mum was well cared for every hour of the day and I now feel that those last years spent at Taptonholme were the happiest of her life.

Review from L B (Daughter-in-law of Resident)

Taptonholme is a small home with a family atmosphere. The home is always sparkling clean, the residents seem comfortable and the staff attentive. The staff respond not only to the needs of the residents but also their visiting relatives, often offering cups of tea. The staff are always courteous and pleasant and demonstrate infinite patience with the residents.

Review from Ruth W (Daughter of Resident)

This is a small, extremely welcoming, friendly and caring Home. My mum is so settled here. The staff are a stable team with a great deal of experience, they show great kindness and professionalism in dealing with my mum who has complex needs.

Although she has not been here very long, we have seen a huge transformation in her well being and condition, she looks so much better. It is clean both in the home and in the outside spaces.

The manager and deputy manager have been so helpful and patient in steering us through the complexities of placements and the general care system. There is an emphasis on care and laughter and my mum loves the staff and the other residents.

Review from Caroline B (Daughter of Resident)

My mother has been a resident at Taptonholme for the past year. The care and love she receives from the staff is exceptional. She has Dementia but because this care and compassion is very happy and settled. The environment is very welcoming and the facilities are excellent. The communication from staff is second to none and a comfort to know my mother is in safe hands.

I feel very fortunate to have my mother in such a lovely place as is Taptonholme and would highly recommend to others.

Review from Sally G (Godmother of Resident)

A very unique care home which because it only caters for 19 residents, is a home from home. The staff are very friendly and supportive of residents needs and welcoming to friends and family. My relative has one of the larger rooms with ensuite toilet and washbasin. She has all her own furniture and we were able to set up her room just as she likes it so it does not feel at all institutionalised. Staff go out of their way to provide my relative with the food she likes and even gave her a freezer drawer of her own for her favourite supermarket meals. Spotlessly clean and rooms are deep cleaned regularly. I would highly recommend this care home it is more like a small hotel and caters very well for those with dementia.

My mother-in-law has always been extremely happy in Taptonholme. It is a very well run home. All the staff are very friendly and care for the residents really well. Everyone is treated with dignity and respect.

It is always clean and they provide home-cooked meals every day. They have managed the Covid situation extremely well, always keeping us informed during this pandemic.

Many thanks to all the staff.

Review from Julia P (Sister-in-law of Resident)

My sister-in-law has been a resident at Taptonholme since early 2020, after a stroke and injury to her foot. Throughout her stay the staff have been fantastic, and when the COVID crisis came along they were quick to restrict visiting and lock down before the rest of the country did, they have been scrupulous in their precautions, and the care staff have stepped up and taken on many roles they did not have to do previously. It is a lovely old house, handy for Broomhill centre, and there is a family atmosphere, with the opportunity for activities. I would not hesitate to recommend this place to anyone needing care for themselves or a relative.

Review from Mike C (Son of Resident)

I was very pleased to find Taptonholme as a place for my mother to live when she got to the stage where she was unable to live independently in her own home. The staff are extremely caring and are always happy to help and go the extra mile. Whenever we visit, we are always warmly welcomed and an offer of tea and biscuits is often supplied.

Communications from the management team are very good with regular updates about the activities mum has been involved with, and her health, along with a photograph. This is particularly helpful as Mum has Altzheimers and can not remember the activities she has done when we visit.

There is a lovely garden at the front of the building where residents can sit during good weather, and this has been particularly useful for visiting during the Covid19 issue.

The house is always very clean and tidy when we visit.
